Cryostasis takes place on a Soviet atomic icebreaker called the North Wind, built by the Soviet Union to sail on Arctic expeditions. It’s an Arctica class ship powered by nuclear energy and this type of ship was the first to ever reach the North Pole. These are extremely powerful ships built especially for voyages along the harsh Northern Seaway and are made from incredibly strong materials. To this day Arctica class ships continue to be an essential part of clearing shipping routes in almost every northern parts of the world. They are also used for transporting expedition crews, machinery and various freights.
